“I have loved the stars too fondly to be fearful of the night.” —Sarah Williams
“The night is the hardest time to be alive and 4am knows all my secrets.” —Poppy Z. Brite
Whether you identify with Williams or Brite, you’ll find something that resonates in the first of a two-part concert venture this season. We will go into “that good night” with an eclectic, nocturnal mix of classical and popular selections, from Brahms’ “O Schöne Nacht,” to selections from living American composer Tom Cipullo’s song cycle “Insomnia,” to James Taylor’s “Lonesome Road,” and more. We will follow NIGHT up with the program DAY in May 2026.
Take a listen!
Star of the Morning
12/07/2025
Originally conceived as a “quiet hour” to catch one’s breath and reflect on the beauty and the deeper meaning of the season, our annual Star Of The Morning program has become a beloved feature of the holiday season. Exploring music and words about the quiet preparation of Advent, the miracle of Hanukkah, the return of the light of the Solstice, the joy of Christmas, this program offers all an opportunity to pause, reflect and connect during this festive time of year. This year we are delighted to present Pittsburgh-based Scott Solak’s newest composition “A Christmas Lullaby”. Scott is a long time friend of Words&Music as well as of St. Luke’s Episcopal Church.
